            Anchored on the theme: “Ambagan Tungo sa Malawakang Kaunlaran”, the Department of the Interior and Local Government – Region 13 (CARAGA) commemorates the 115th Anniversary of Philippine Independence together with the city government of Butuan and regional line agencies at Guingona Park, Butuan City this June 12, 2013.


            The national celebration highlights the flag raising ceremony, which is simultaneously done in all parts of the country. Heads of offices present in the activity honors the momentous day by wearing Filipiniana attire as a symbol of tribute to the historic freedom earned by Filipinos.


            Part of the Independence Day memorial was the oath-taking of newly-elected officials of Butuan City before Judge Emmanuel Escatron. The newly-elected officials who took their oath of office were re-elected Mayor Ferdinand M. Amante Jr, Vice-Mayor Angelo Calo, and eight members of the city council: Jaime Cembrano, Derick Plaza, Virgilio Nerry, Ferdinand Nalcot, Rema Burdeos, Ramon Carampatana, Samuel Allan Amante, and Ryan Culima.


            A Freedom Prayer was offered to mark the city’s tribute to the nationwide celebration. This was followed with the message of re-elect Mayor Amante, who with emphasis said that the people of Butuan need to claim the destiny of reaching success by working together so that this will result into building a city that the future generation can enjoy.
