The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Regional Office 13 (Caraga) is calling-out to all local government units in Caraga region to participate in the Mindanao-wide campaign dubbed as “TreeVolution: Greening MindaNOW” on September 26, 2014.
Secretary of the Interior and Local Government Mar Roxas issued Memorandum Circular No. 2014-103 dated August 27, 2014 enjoining all Local Chief Executives (LCEs) of Mindanao, specifically of Regions 9, 10, 1, 12, 13 and ARMM to support the event by planting trees in a 5-hectare public land of their provinces, municipalities and/or cities.
DILG 13 Regional Director Lilibeth A. Famacion already issued Memorandum dated September 3, 2014 to direct all LCEs in the region to actively take part in the event as it will support the Department’s outcome of achieving Environment Friendly, Disaster Resilient and Climate Change Adaptive LGUs.
This event is aimed to break the Guinness World Record from India for most trees planted simultaneously at multiple locations in just an hour. The target for trees to be planted in whole Mindanao is 4,636,000 on the said date.
In Caraga region, a target of 500,000 trees will be planted in 1000 hectares by 25,000 planters. Species of plants include cacao, coffee, mangrove, timber and other fruit trees which are of economic value and benefit to the people.
The world record attempt is to raise environmental awareness and instill consciousness to the people, as well as to achieve at least 30% target of forest cover envisioned in the Mindanao 2020 Peace and Development Framework Plan. (LGOO II FLorian Faith Jr. P. Bayawa)
