The National Conferment Ceremony for LGUs that have passed the test of good local governance is being held at Sofitel Philippine Plaza, Manila, today – October 27, 2016. The awarding is just in time with the culmination activity of the month-long celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the Local Government Code (LGC) of 1991 with the theme: “LGC @ 25: Pagsulong, Progreso, Pagbabago.”

As the Code reaches its 25th year of implementation, the DILG celebrates the journey of local governance and builds on its recent progress to guide and transform LGUs as able instruments of good governance in shifting towards federalism.

Interior and Local Government Secretary Ismael ‘Mike’ D. Sueno said this year’s celebration is a ‘huge milestone’, as it celebrates significant breakthroughs and exemplary performance in the 25-year journey of local governance.

In the country, there are 306 LGUs that will receive the Seal. The SGLG awardees will receive an incentive fund called Performance Challenge Fund which they can use for the implementation of local development projects. (Florian Faith Jr. P. Bayawa, LGOO V, DILG 13)
