Per DILG Memorandum Circular No. 2017-31 entitled: “Conduct of Barangay Assembly for the First Semester of CY 2017” barangays all over the region held the 1^st semester Synchronized Barangay Assembly Day last Saturday, March 25, 2017. This year’s theme is “Sulong Barangay Kontra Droga, Krimen at Katiwalian: Makialam! Makilahok! Makiisa!”

 

Barangay Pangabugan in Butuan City is Caraga Region’s showcase barangay. DILG Caraga Regional Director Lilibeth A. Famacion read the DILG Secretary Ismael Sueno’s Message to the Barangays. She stressed the importance of the active participation of every community member in the fight against illegal drugs and criminality. Further, RD Famacion emphasized that these problems begin at the barangay level, destroying families and communities. Thus, communities play a big role in the resolution of the problems. She then enjoined the attendees to practice the spirit of voluntarism by being part of the Mamamayang Ayaw sa Anomalya, Mamamayang Ayaw sa Droga (MASAMASID) Program.

Other guests present were PS/I Agustin Navarro of the Butuan City Police Office who talked on “Double Barrel Reloaded”, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency representative Leslie Lala who expounded on R.A. 9165, and Butuan City Sangguniang Panlungsod member Hon. Ferdinand Nalcot who gave the inspirational message. DILG City Director Charissa T. Guerta discussed on barangay compliance on national laws and introduction to Federalism.

The 575 strong Pangabugan residents present, listened intently to the discussions and paid special attention to State of Barangay Address (SOBA) of Punong Barangay Hon Abundio A Leones.
