The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC) of Lanuza, in coordination with the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the Liga ng mga Barangay, spearheaded a Planning Workshop on Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) for 13 barangays on April 16-19, 2013 at the Surf Lanuza Training Center.
The activity was slated to facilitate over 190 participants composed of Punong Barangays, Barangay Development Council members, Sangguniang Kabataan chairpersons, tanod chiefs, DepEd representatives, and CSO representatives. The First Batch (barangays Nurcia, Sibahay, Habag, Zone I, Zone II, Zone III, and Zone IV) had their workshop on the 16th and 17th; the Second Batch (barangays Gamuton, Agsam, Bunga, Bocawe, Pakwan, and Mampi) followed on the 18th and 19th.
“The need for the barangays to chart their respective DRRM Plan is very important inasmuch as it [the plan] serves as the roadmap towards creating safe and disaster-resilient communities in Lanuza”, said Ernie Y. Gultiano, the Municipal Local Government Operations Officer of Lanuza.
Vice Mayor Algerico H. Irizari also emphasized the need for disaster preparedness in the community. He urged everyone, especially the barangay officials, to maximize the use of their resources –however limited they are – and to employ ingenuity and strong collaboration among themselves and the municipal government in managing the risk of disaster.
After the identification of hazards, vulnerabilities and capacities in their respective barangays, the participants were able to formulate their five-year BDRRM Plan with the help of the Workshop Team composed of Ms. Lolita G. Cidro of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office; Mr. Joseph G. Porgatorio and Ernie Y. Gultiano of the DILG; and Mr. Abel de Guzman of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office. (LGOO V Ernie Gultiano)
