Tandag City—The Provincial Government of Surigao del Sur, Armed Forces of the Philippines and Philippine National Police entered into a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to formally declare Surigao del Sur as Conflict-Manageable and Ready for Further Development Province during the Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) Meeting last March 8, 2016 at the Villa Maria Luisa Hotel, this year.

Signatories to the MOA were Hon. Johnny T. Pimentel representing the Province of Surigao del Sur; Col Isidro L Purisima INF (GSC), Commander of 402nd Brigade, for the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP); and PSSupt Romaldo G Bayting, Provincial Director, for the Philippine National Police.

The activity was highlighted by the Ribbon Cutting ceremonies for the Photo Exhibit, Program Proper, Entrustment of New Firearms, Wall of Commitment Signing and Press Briefing.

During the activity, the Department of the Interior and Local Government-Surigao del Sur (DILG-SDS) released a total of P2,080,000.00 worth of checks for the Livelihood & Cash Assistance and Cooperative Development Assistance checks to 32 Former Rebels (FRs) as part of the Comprehensive Local Integration Program (CLIP). The financial assistance comprises P65,000.00 for each beneficiary plus the assistance from the provincial government of P5,000.00.

In his message during the program, Gov. Pimentel said that for the past 30 years of struggle to fight the battle against insurgency, the province has improved significantly and urged everyone to keep performing their duties at its best for the province to totally end the problem of insurgency and eventually achieve its objective.

Guest of Honor and Keynote Speaker Gen Hernando DCA Iriberri, Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines was represented by Lt. General Rey Leonardo B Guerrero of Eastern Mindanao Command, enunciated that the declaration of the province as conflict manageable and ready for further development marks the initial stage signifying the obvious reduction of insurgency and decrease of violence, and an indication that regional developmental efforts are manifested.

 

Among the witnesses were Lt. General Rey Leonardo B Guerrero of Eastern Mindanao Command, Maj Gen Oscar T Lactao, Commander of 4th Infantry Division, PCSupt Rolando B Felix, Regional Director of PRO XIII, Hon. Manuel O. Alameda Sr., Vice Governor, Hon. Henrich M. Pimentel, SP Member, and Pedrito P. Alacaba, CESO V, Provincial Director of DILG.
